Introduction

VI Peel

When you are younger, your skin can endure extremes and recover almost 100%, yet the older you get, the effects of your lifestyle, the environment, and the general aging process become a little more prominent and difficult to repair. Patients all over Boston and Arlington, MA, have been turning to the VI peel from Prosilience Studio as an effective way to improve their skin’s appearance. Unlike a traditional chemical peel, the VI peel works great for patients with more sensitive skin.

What is a VI Peel?

VI (Vitality Institute) peels are medium-depth chemical peel treatments designed to help improve aging, oily skin, acne, and sun damage. VI rejuvenates your skin by removing the epidermis and penetrating the upper layers of the dermis so fresh, new skin can develop.

This powerful and painless procedure contains the following chemicals to help rejuvenate your skin:

  • Trichloroacetic acid (TCA): Excellent for treating signs of aging due to sunlight exposure, as well as improving fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and precancerous skin growth.
  • Salicylic acid: Salicylic acid-containing chemical peels are great for treating mild to moderate acne symptoms. Although they are less effective in treating hyperpigmentation and sun damage, they can still help improve these conditions.
  • Phenol: Typically used in deeper skin peels, phenol can help improve the appearance of sun damage, acne, hyperpigmentation, and scarring.
  • Vitamin C: Helps promote collagen production and protect your skin from sun damage.
  • Tretinoin: Acts as both a short and long-term solution for clearing up acne breakouts.

What Are the Benefits of a VI Peel?

Our Arlington and Boston, MA VI peel patients have cited the following benefits from their treatments:

  • Creates a younger, more radiant look by improving the tone, texture, and clarity of your skin
  • Diminishes the appearance of sun spots and hyperpigmentation
  • Reduces the visibility of expression lines and signs of aging.
  • Zero-to-minimal downtime
  • Treatment can be used on various body parts
  • Boosts your collagen and elastin production.
  • It can help reduce the appearance of acne scars.

Who Are the Best Candidates for a VI Peel?

The best candidates for a VI Peel in the greater Boston and Arlington areas are patients who have some of the following characteristics:

  • Have fair to medium skin
  • Would like to address signs of aging

Please keep in mind that while a VI peel is versatile in use, patients who are pregnant, have darker skin, or are currently taking estrogen boosters may be at a higher risk of developing skin discoloration or dark spots.

What to Expect on the Day of a VI Peel Treatment

When you come into our boutique medical spa on the day of your VI peel, you will be greeted by our friendly concierge team. They will escort you to our treatment room, where you can relax comfortably in a reclining chair.

Your face will be cleansed, and upon request, we can apply a topical numbing cream to improve your experience. The chemical solution is applied in two layers, so you may feel numbness or tingling after the first layer; the second layer will then be applied, turning your skin white.

Depending on the area being treated, a VI peel treatment can take between 20 to 45 minutes.

VI Peel Recovery

You can wash off the peel with a mild cleanser and water about four to six hours post-treatment; however, you should avoid applying creams or lotions until your skin is clean.

You will be provided with a “post-peel” protection that you should use two to four times a day until you are finished peeling. To avoid discoloration, you should also frequently apply moisturizer and avoid direct sunlight.

Your skin will begin to peel after about three days. DO NOT peel it yourself—your personal aesthetician will inform you of the safest and most efficient technique for removing your old, dead skin.

If you wish to see continuous results, we recommend scheduling “maintenance” treatments every four to six weeks.
